 Explain the importance of cross media synergies in the media area you have studied. 

For Paramount, cross media synergies are crucial for maximizing the reach and impact of their content by utilizing their diverse media platforms(movies, TV, streaming) and partnerships to create a cohesive and engaging experience for audience. Paramount Pictures was founded in 1914 by William Wadsworth Hodkinson, a movie producer born in Independence, KS on August 16, 1881, became a leading movie studio and in a pioneer in film distribution. Paramounts targets a broad and diverse audience, such as Kids, Adults, African Americans, and Hispanics. These viewers making apart of the 4.3 billion subscribers around the 180 countries that Paramount are available. 

In terms of production, Paramount often creates content that can be adapted across various media. For example, a movie might start as a script, then become a film, and later be turned into a series or a video game. This not only maximizes the use of their original ideas but also allows them to reach different audiences through different formats. By creating stories that can thrive in various forms, they ensure that their content remains relevant and engaging. Title Sequence Final

The title sequence was made to feel mysterious. We used a font called Bebas Neue, which has a modern look that adds to that vibe. Its bold and clean lines help the text stand out clearly against the background. The white color of the font makes it even more visible and strong. Blurring the background behind the title shows how isolated the characters are, just like when they are in the woods. We chose N.E.A.L for our studio name because it uses the first letters of our names (Nestor, Emily, Anabel, and Leon), which shows our teamwork on this project. The name Biggie Productions came from our love of food and eating together, adding a personal touch to what we do.

We also staggered the actors names to give it a movie-like feel, slowly introducing the main characters to the audience. This design helps set the mood and flow of the title sequence, getting everyone ready for what's coming next.

What specific technical elements of the film opening did you like?
A technical element I like is that there is always some type of movement in the camera, nothing is ever set in one place. This makes the clip have more life to it. Another element I like is the editing for the thing stalking the characters, the darkened sight adds to the menacing feel. 

What specific technical elements of the film opening did you dislike?
A technical element I did not like was the sound. The first shot had sound that was hard to hear compared to the rest of the first cut. All it needs is more consistency throughout. Another element was at around 18 seconds with the quick cut to a zoomed in character. This seems out of place. 

Did this look like a movie opener and did it make you want to know what happens next? 
It does make me want to know what happens next. Though it does seem to end to abruptly. This is likely because the clip only had around 1 minute and 20 seconds done at the time I am writing this. This is definitely a good movie opener. 

Was there anything that left you confused? 
There was one thing that left me confused in this first cut. At around 1:06 the video cuts from the day to night. It is either too big of a time jump without any filler or explanation or just dark because of time constraints. Either way it confuses me, other than that there is nothing that leaves confusion. 

What suggestions do you have to make this movie opener better?
I suggest to change the audio levels on certain cuts. This can make it more consistent throughout. Another suggestion is to add an audio threshold, this will help stop the sound of the wind in the background which takes over the dialogue. 

This feedback had aspects that my group and I had discussed but based on the deadline were no able to edit and connect. In terms of the shot with the audio that was hard to hear, since we were doing it in a public place then its really hard to cut out the noice but I do believe that we did fix that part. Another point discussed was the change of lighting, which was caused by the quick sunset but in the final video it is fixed!

For this film, I appreciated the plot of a girl who went missing and appreciated the twist at the end where her necklace and possible coordinates to follow her location were found. I also felt that the acting was very good. It did come off like a true movie opener to a real film, and I would want to know if they are able to successfully find the missing girl once they receive her coordinates, if she has sustained any injuries, has the same personality, or if she has died. However, I feel that there should have been a wider range of camera shots to truly enhance the film. I also think a suspenseful music soundtrack would have added more depth to the film.

However, I felt as if we had enough ranges of camera shots and I feel like we involve more then it might be seen as overdoing and can lose focus from the actual video. Unfortunately, we can't add if the girl is found or what happened to her because that would ruin the point of the movie opener, but I believe that is what makes it so engaging.

In this film, what I enjoyed most was the camera movements. The use of handheld and dolly made you feel as if you were part of their adventure. The tilt up to a fade in to black was a perfect transition. Also using the blurry forest for the title was clever. The dialogue is good as well.
What elements I did not like in the film was the lighting. There was a sudden change in natural lighting from day/evening to night that makes no sense as there seems to be no skip in time. The film also lacked background sound that could have been used to add mystery or suspense. The film was quiet with only footsteps and dialogue generally being heard.
This was definitely an opening scene. The scene leaves you wondering what creature was hiding behind the tree and what happened to her friend. It keeps the viewer hooked, wanting to know what happens next as they end abruptly after finding a clue. It makes it feel like the adventure just started. The only thing that left me confused is how it suddenly turned night. I get how the darkness adds to the tone, but it was very messy. My suggestion is to fix the lighting issue by either having the first part darker, or the second part lighter (preferably the first option). There also should be a creepy or mystery soundtrack played in the background. Overall it is a great opening, but it definitely still needs work.

I enjoyed the editing done at 0:48 that implies there's someone watching them and adds a mysterious feeling to the next scenes. Also, the title sequence is very well executed. I like how the camera tilts toward the sky and trees. The soft focus during it is also well done because it helps the title become prominent agaisnt the background. 

What specific technical elements of the film opening did you dislike?
I didn't like the medium shot at 0:17 because it didn't add any significant meaning to the scene and looked unnatural. I also disliked the zoom at 0:25 because it adds a "vlogging" style to the shot, whereas it's not utilized anywhere else in the opening scene.

Did this look like a movie opener and did it make you want to know what happens next? 
Yes, this does feel like the opening scene to a movie. By puting the title sequence halfway through the opening scene, it gives viewers a chance to become aqquanted with ther protagonists. Also, the chronological order of the events help secure the idea of this opening scene as a mystery about a person who has gone missing. The ending makes me curious as to where the coordinates lead and what the protagonists will find there.

Was there anything that left you confused?
Yes, why does it suddenly get dark at 1:06? Additionally, why do the protagonists have better clue-finding abilities than the supoosed detective at the start who told them the missing person might be gone? If one of the characters was set up to appear as a highly intelligent person, the opening scene may be more believable.  

What suggestions do you have to make this movie opener better?
My suggestion would be to refilm the ending scene where it suddenly gets dark to make the opening scene more cohesive and understandable. Instead of some of the editing like the cut to the medium shot and the zoom, actually moving the camera might look more impressive than what was done post-production.

To comment on the confusion of the protagonist having better clue finding abilities than the detective in the opening scene, this is because the friends take in upon themselves to find the clues, this is just them looking since the detective gave the sense of giving up. Thank you for commenting on the awkwardness in one shot, my group took this into account and is looking into fixing it.

The camera shots and movements in this intro are incredibly smooth and well executed. It uses a variety of camera movements such as a tilt, a handheld camera movement, and a zoom. The editing of the title scene is excellent. Also the cuts are edited well creating a smooth proceeding of events in the intro. Finally, I like the diegetic sound of the surrounding wilderness and the footsteps of the characters.

There were only some slight issues with this first cut. These being the lighting, and the sound. The lighting was fine for the most part, until randomly it changes from a clear day to a nighttime, taking me out of the immersion of the intro. For the sound, they need to fix the volume of the characters voices, maybe add some background music, and tweak the background sound of the wilderness a bit. Throughout the whole media text it is hard to understand what the characters are saying and what is being talked about. Also I feel like this film would benefit greatly from an eerie background track or something of the like.

This media text definitely looks like a movie opener but it doesn't feel enough like one. When I think of movie intros I think of the heavy tension they give off. In this opening they definitely introduce events that could have a lot of tension-such as when it looks like something/someone is watching the characters or when they find the coordinates-but these events come off a little flat as there is no background music to amplify the mystery/scariness/drama of the scenes. When they find the coordinates it would be nice to hear a nondiegetic sound that would increase the mystery like in other openings. Finally, they did a great job making me want to know what happens next in the film, with many things left unanswered.

I guess it is a little confusing in some aspects. Like for one who is the person missing? Is she one of their friends? That's what I'm assuming. Also, what led them to look for her in this location? Did some clue lead them to this forest? You could argue these keep the audience wanting to know what is happening and what will happen without giving too much knowledge but it does confuse me a bit.
My only suggestions to make this better is to fix the sound, lighting, maybe give a little background info for the audience, and amplify the scenes that should have more tension/emotion. Besides these changes this is a very well made production and exceeds as a movie opener.

I believe that your recommendation for adding more soundtrack is valid as it can only increase the tension and that is something we are definitely having for our Final Cut, along with the audio that will be getting fixed due to the excessive comments on it.

I wish I could have seen more variety in the technical elements. It felt like it was the same five elements being used. A little more diversity in the techniques would have made the experience more interesting and engaging, rather than feeling repetitive and predictable each time.

This movie opener was really impressive and definitely grabbed my attention. It created a sense of curiosity that made me eager to find out what happens next. The way it set the stage for the story left me wanting more, which is always a sign of a great start

One thing that left me confused was the email part, when she received the email there was not really enough time to read the only thing we see is red words like urgent and etc so it just left me confused about what the email contained. Another thing that left me confused was the glitch, I feel like most people might not get it, it took me some time to get that it shows reality vs what she said.

One suggestion I have is to add some time in some clips like the email clip so the audience can read and understand it so they can know what is going on. Another one is making more technical elements to help experience more interested and engaging of the audience.

In this film, I really appreciated the zoom-in during the conversation. It effectively captured the friend's emotions of feeling left out. The film left me confused for several reasons. I wondered what the guy told his friends and how that impacted the story. These details are crucial for the audience to understand the plot. Without them, the film can become quite confusing and leave viewers with unanswered questions.

One suggestion that I have is that if you start your film horizontally then finish the video horizontal, don't switch between vertical and horizontal during the film. Another suggestion is to let the audience know what is going on, it will make the film more interesting and engaging.

In this film some specific technical elements that I like was the tracking shot at the beginning because it followed the characters and introduced the reason why they are at the park and make the video follow. Another technical element I enjoyed was jump cut , I really enjoyed this element because it helped support the idea that her friend was being paranoid at the park by showing the various angles

In the film one specific technical element I did not like was the pan shot / establishment shot of the lake just because it was felt very out of place. I believe a point of view shot would have been better because it will help the audience set the scene from the protagonist eyes.

This did look like a movie opener and it did make me want to know what happens next because it all ran smoothly and it keeps the audience on their toes of what will happen next.  It was like a big adventure waiting to unfold, and ending this on a cliffhanger definitely makes the audience know what will happen next.

Everything made sense, and nothing left me feeling confused. Everything felt organized and in its right place. I didn't notice anything negative that caught my attention. Overall, it was a smooth experience, and I appreciated how well everything came together without any distractions or issues to worry about.

One suggestion I have is to make sure the audio does not cross. In one scene the video shifts to the next scene while the other audio is still playing, it's a small miner suggestion but it can interrupt the flow and by taking this suggestion it can help the flow.

During this film there multiple technical elements that I liked, The tilt showing the main character was crucial and helped the audience know our protagonist and the point of view shot at the beginning when someone was playing the piano because it helped set the scene.

One major thing that left me confused was why there was no sound in the video. Audio is HUGE element in film and not including it can hinder the possibilities of the film being graded well and they can also help the video drastically. Another thing that left me confused was the importance of the piano scene but in my opinion it did not contribute to the rest of the film. 

What suggestions do you have to make this movie opener better?

One suggestion is to add audio so it can help the film, especially in the scene where we see someone in the car, this can help tell the audience what emotion was tied to the scene. I would also suggest adding ambient noice of the parking lot.

I really enjoyed the mid shot because it effectively captured the conversation between the two characters. It allowed us to see their facial expressions clearly, making the scene feel more personal and engaging. I did not really like the tracking shot at the beginning of the film because it hold no significance if it would have connected to the following scene then it would be enjoyed more. Another one I did not like was the teleportation cut that shifted from the couch to the table because it just left me really confused.

In my opinion, this did not look like a movie opener due to the fact that this film in my opinion was all over the place. I was extremely confused on the theme and if the theme of the film is not clear most audience can disengaged. The cliffhanger was also not leaving people on the fence to find out what is next.

Multiple things left me confused, why did one of the characters search up, "guide to self confidence" but this is a video intend towards ivy decisions. Also how in a scene did they go from the couch to the chairs with teleportation, this makes the video 

What suggestions do you have to make this movie opener better?

One suggestion I would give to make this movie opener better is to find a quieter place to film, there is a lot of background noise and it's extremely hard to differentiate the audio. Also I would suggest to not cut out the audio half way through the film as it can bring awkwardness, i would suggest some added noise that can help the film.

When discussing our title, my group has decided what font we want. We are thinking of making the title in white and for the font we were think of BebaNeue. This font gives suspense usually in horror films because it catches the eye with the boldness and brings further suspense to the scene. Some of video effects we plan to use is blurriness for our title to guide the audience at the title. During the film we have various transitions such as . Some audio effects we used were ambient noise. 

Some problems we encountered during editing were making transitions smooth and timing effects with the video. Some solutions to these problems were to take it slow and having people help out. They have spent around 3 hours now. Lastly, we have added more effects to our video such as, zooms in to help focus on the person speaking and edits such as vignette and the blur close effect.

My teammates have spent around 2 hours editing. Anabel and Emily (The people in the pictures from above) are in charge of editing. We plan to keep filming soon and encounter new problems but as a team we will work together to get through any obstacle. 

Filming Process

This is our groups 2nd week in action as we continued where we left off last week. We knew the best way to prefect our video is to put the film together and see what we could do better and critic it, so after reviewing some previous film we refilmed some parts that didn't look up to part with the video and thought of ideas of how we can fix it. The lighting has been amazing and so cooperative however after filming the first time we noticed that it got dark extremely quick so we couldn't waste any time. After taking the lighting into consideration as a major step back, we quickly found that it was best to meet at an earlier time. 

     

                

These are some picture captivated from our last session. Our helper Gabriel, with the bright yellow shirt, helped captivate different angles along with our director Anabel. We decided that we need multiple angles at the same time so we chose to bring our friend so he can help us record and help Anabel with various angles.

Challenges in Film

This is my groups 2nd time filming over the last couple weeks.These last couple weeks have brought challenges that reappear and new one that present every time we film. One of the groups biggest challenge is working around everyone schedule and finding a perfect day for everyone to film. We also encountered other challenges at the location of film such as, people walking in and around the video because it is a public park a lot of people love to go for walks. We also have minor challenges like all remembering our lines and what we have to do in each scene. As a group, I believe that we have been handling these challenges great as we also seem to find a date for filming and as we have patience for each other since we have been friends for a long period of time. The lighting and sound are great as it helps sets up the location of a park with the suns reflection on trees in the background and the ambient noises present. So far everyone has held their own weight and contributed significantly to the film and I can't wait to see the end results. 

Costuming

For the film, the protagonists are wearing regular teenager outfits that consist of shorts, a shirt, and some active shoes. The reason we chose these outfits is because they add realism. Another outfit that is going to be shown is a police officer. In the scene, it will just show the officer's bottoms with a low angle. The reason we chose this was to help start our film with a mysterious feeling. Everyone participating in the film will be using their natural hair to connect with the teenage audience. Additionally, we plan to include various accessories and props to enhance each character's look. For example, the protagonist might carry a backpack or jewelry, while the police officer might have a belt with a holster and a flashlight. These details will help convey the characters' roles and personalities more effectively. This will help us connect to the audience and make it easier to convey our story.

Preparing to Film

Actors: The actors in our film is a group of friends that go by the name Emily, Anabel, Leon, and Nestor

Costumes: Our costumes are mostly basic teenager outfits (T-Shirt, Shorts, and Shoes). Another would be a police officer one in the beginning.

Props: The props in our film are a locket that contributes to the plot. Our prop was easy to acquire since we could order it online.

Locations: Our first location would be a forest, this is where the film will begin. The second location takes us to an abounded building that's run down. A challenge with the first location is timing and lighting. If we go too late it might be too dark to film. In the abandoned building lighting might also be an issue.

Dates and Times: Our films would be easiest to film on weekends. We could all meet up around 4:30 or earlier so the lighting is dark but enough to see in.

Script: The script has been made and each actor has their own lines and roles. I will be playing a protagonist that help solves the mystery of our missing friend.

Film Equipment: Film equipment being used is a phone camera to record the shots and a drone to record the setting.

To begin the opening scene mood board, we see three teenagers searching for something in the woods. They seem nervous, as if someone they knew was in danger. The two settings for these opening scenes are a forest, the parking lot of the forest, and an abandoned building. These three settings help develop the plot as we shift from scene to scene, capturing the essence of a mystery or an ongoing investigation. Our three main characters are wearing basic outfits (a t-shirt, shorts, and hiking shoes) to show that they are likely on a spontaneous adventure or search. The girl celebrating her birthday in the bottom corner serves as a core memory for our characters, using this clue to help find their missing friend. Lastly, the locket prop is a crucial clue as to where their friend might be. It will trigger a shocked and intrigued reaction among our characters.

The film started by showing a master shot with all the characters going up the stairs. The wordings on the screen saying the characters names and title emulate how movies usually write the words on the screen at the beginning. The film opening uses many focusing shots that pull the audience's attention. For example, focus pulls are used to show the characters and the vehicle. These would be helpful in our own opening and can direct the attention of the audience.

It also includes insert clips in chronological order of them getting into the car, the car starting up, plugging in the phone into aux, and amping up the volume to create a dramatic effect of going on a thrill ride. Trucking shots follow the car around as the group of friends swerve and speed around the parking lot and highway. We can take away from this film the different movements and composition in place, making it more cinematic, to create the sense of mystery for our film.

  Video two is a horror film opening where it follows the protagonist and his urge to stalk and become his best friend. The opening feels like a documentary, where we peek into the thoughts and motivations of the protagonist. Various technical elements help provide a creepy and discomforting mood that audiences can feel. For example, low key lighting is used multiple times which emphasizes shadows and a moody atmosphere. In our film, this would be useful since it involves mystery elements. More elements like close up shots, creepy music, and dark lighting emphasize the horror aspect. The close up shots further show the craze of the protagonist and emphasize his emotion. Creepy music and darker lighting further enhance the audience's feelings of uneasiness. Low key and dark lighting, creepy music, and other technical elements can be used in our film which would contribute to how audiences will feel.

Video # 3: The Blue Boar

Film 3 takes place outside in a forest area. There is an action shot of a young lady walking in the dirt and it depicts her feet taking steps and the action is finished showing her face in the next clip finishing up her walking while her mother is talking to her about business. She then gets a lecture from her mother about not going into the churchyard and she looks into the abyss as the crosscut of her running into the churchyard appears. She is wearing a costume including mise en scene elements to maybe have the audience thinking about the time period she was in or if her family was the modest or religious type. The film is shot with natural lighting from the sun outside. The daughter then breaks into a song singing about her experience with embracing the nature around her, defying her mother. I would not take much from this opening film due to the fact that it does not fall within our genre type.

After watching this clip, I would say the genre is mysterious. It starts off by showing a potion brewing and then the rest of the clips are a  mixture of close ups, low key lighting, and slow pans to slowly reveal different details about the film to the viewer. For instance, it quickly pans to the wall that shows a paper saying “patient 0534” to reveal that the person tied up in the chair might be getting tested on. One cool thing about the structure of the film was the use of parallel cutting as it showed both what the scientist was doing and the patient waking up at the same time. Additionally, the music choice creates the feeling of suspense, which can be a helpful tip to keep in mind for our own film. Another thing I would take from this film would be the use of lowkey lighting since we both have the same genre.

Video #5: Stalker

After watching video 5, I would say the genre is mysterious. It starts by the protagonist waking up to the sound of her alarm and getting up and getting ready for her day. She heard a snapshot of a picture and her emotions quickly changed. She uses very tense music that helps set the scene and helps set the tense emotion. She uses various technical elements such as a low angle to show her getting out of bed, a high angle shot to show her starting her work and the note she received in her pencil pouch, close up shot to capture her reaction to someone taking a picture of her in the morning, and etc. The film has a very good sound however, the quality is blurry and it's hard to see and stay attracted to the video. For my video I would use the sound because it helps create tension as our video is also genre mysterious.

Video #6: Nostalgia

Video 6 starts off with a slow tilt towards the sky. Then we see a painting off a city or town and we see a grandma reminiscing on the wall of paint. Then we get a close up shot of her reaction, she seems sad as if this painting has significance in her lifetime. Then we see her picking a leaf from the bush and holding it up to her chest. It quickly shifts to a bunch of pictures on a table of herself, a city, and religious pictures. This video ends up with a little girl with the same outfit as if she was her younger self. This video uses a lot of cuts and not a lot of technical elements. One thing I did like about this video was the music because it gave it a nostalgic feeling. One thing I did not like was that there were limited technical elements so it disengages the audience. One thing I WILL NOT  take from this video is limited elements.

Video #7: Rise

Rise is a video opening that involves technical elements which show the skills of a soccer player. High angle shots let audiences know that the protagonist is a soccer player by showing the field behind him. Quick zooms are used for all the gear and him suiting up. These elements let audiences understand that this is a sports clip, and the protagonist is gearing up to play. Action matches and tracking shots follow the ball and the moves of the protagonist. In our own film, we can also use high angle shots. These would help show our surroundings and add to the setting. We can also use over the shoulder shots that follow our own protagonists. Most of the other elements in this intro probably wouldn’t fit in our own film. The sound choice and lighting is also upbeat, motivating, and bright which don't fit the mystery genre.

Video #8 Dear Lover

This film takes place outside and it uses a voiceover as a way of explaining to the audience what’s going on. In addition to the voiceover, it uses slow music and a series of longshots to help accentuate the sad tone of the film due to the fact that the daughter ran away. By utilizing fade outs to transition back to clips of the girl being interviewed, it helps the overall structure of the film flow.  One thing I would take from this film is how they started the clip by showing a couple shots of the setting. Since my group's film also has a flashback, we can also take note of how this person made the screen brighter to show that she was showing a memory.

 
Initial Brainstorming/Story Board 

Scene #1 - Introduction

 

Summary: The characters are informed that their friend is declared dead. The sad teens

take the information in, but are still left a little skeptical about their friend's

mysterious death.

Technical Elements:  

Location- Tree Top Park (parking lot area)

Shallow Focus- would show the fog around and background being blurry

Sound Effects- police siren

Scene #2 - Into the woods

 

Summary: The clip starts off with the teens hearing a sound in the woods and they also see footsteps which sparks their curiosity. (the camera transitions towards the noise)  They begin going into the forest and it transitions to an establishing shot.

Technical Elements:

Establishing shot - (use the drone to go over the forest to get an overview)

Aerial shot- shows the overview of the forest in which we would be walking

Point of view shot -  the initial shot to show us hearing the footsteps and then turning to look

Handheld camera - to show the “nervousness or fear” that the teens are feeling at that moment

Sound - Diegetic sound of the footsteps being enhanced

Scene #3 - Finding a Clue

Summary: After entering the woods, the group of friends starts fooling around , when Nestor trips and finds an old necklace on the floor. The clip then transitions into a flashback of the missing friend, (anabel) and reveals that that is the necklace that she used to wear. They open up the locket and find a message that ends up leading them to the abandoned warehouse

Technical Elements: 

Tracking - follows the friends running from the figure

Insert - zooms in on the necklace to put emphasis on it

Flashback - shows a clip of Anabel with her necklace in the past

Eye line match - shows a close up of his eyes and then shows what he is looking at (the locket)

Scene #4 - Abandoned Warehouse 

Summary: Clip opens up with the 3 friends looking up to the scary  abandoned building. We end the scene with the friends walking in the abandoned building while someone is secretly watching them from a far through the bushes. The friends turn and there is a quick shift in the camera as if someone is trying to hide, leaving it up to the audience’s interpretation

Technical Elements: 

Hand held cam - the camera is shaky and behind a bush. It is set up at a sneaky angle to make it look like some is watching us

Folly sound - we are gonna adit in a sound of bushes rattling in the wind

Long shot - we would do this to show the difference in size of the building in comparison to the abandoned building
