Initial Brainstorming/Story Board

Scene #1 - Introduction

Summary: The characters are informed that their friend is declared dead. The sad teens

take the information in, but are still left a little skeptical about their friend's

mysterious death.

Technical Elements:

Location- Tree Top Park (parking lot area)

Shallow Focus- would show the fog around and background being blurry

Sound Effects- police siren

Scene #2 - Into the woods

Summary: The clip starts off with the teens hearing a sound in the woods and they also see footsteps which sparks their curiosity. (the camera transitions towards the noise)  They begin going into the forest and it transitions to an establishing shot.

Technical Elements:

Establishing shot - (use the drone to go over the forest to get an overview)

Aerial shot- shows the overview of the forest in which we would be walking

Point of view shot -  the initial shot to show us hearing the footsteps and then turning to look

Handheld camera - to show the “nervousness or fear” that the teens are feeling at that moment

Sound - Diegetic sound of the footsteps being enhanced

Scene #3 - Finding a Clue

Summary: After entering the woods, the group of friends starts fooling around , when Nestor trips and finds an old necklace on the floor. The clip then transitions into a flashback of the missing friend, (anabel) and reveals that that is the necklace that she used to wear. They open up the locket and find a message that ends up leading them to the abandoned warehouse

Technical Elements:

Tracking - follows the friends running from the figure

Insert - zooms in on the necklace to put emphasis on it

Flashback - shows a clip of Anabel with her necklace in the past

Eye line match - shows a close up of his eyes and then shows what he is looking at (the locket)

Scene #4 - Abandoned Warehouse

Summary: Clip opens up with the 3 friends looking up to the scary  abandoned building. We end the scene with the friends walking in the abandoned building while someone is secretly watching them from a far through the bushes. The friends turn and there is a quick shift in the camera as if someone is trying to hide, leaving it up to the audience’s interpretation

Technical Elements:

Hand held cam - the camera is shaky and behind a bush. It is set up at a sneaky angle to make it look like some is watching us

Folly sound - we are gonna adit in a sound of bushes rattling in the wind

Long shot - we would do this to show the difference in size of the building in comparison to the abandoned building

Opening Sequence

                           Opening Sequence

Today, my group and I started brainstorming possible ideas for our two-minute clip. My group members are Emily M, Anabel L, Leon S. We decided that a thriller/mystery genre would best match our story idea. The plot of the film is supposed to be: A group of friends is told one of their friends is "dead." They go investigate for themselves in the woods, find a cryptic message, leading them to a deserted warehouse. During the filming process, we wanted it to have multiple settings, including an abandoned building and the forest.

Genre:
  • Thriller Mystery

Members:

  • Nestor Castano - Actor, Scriptwriters
  • Emily Morgan - Editor/ Scriptwriter / Actor
  • Anabel Jade Laveus Editor/ Scriptwriter / Actor
  • Leon Segal - Actor/ Cameraman

Location:

  • An abandoned building( location may vary)
  • Forest

Practice Question 1

Practice Question 1

Analyze how the extract from Agent Carter constructions meaning, including the specific representation of individuals, group / event place through the following:

1) Camera shots, angle, movement, and CompoSItion

a) Sound 3) Mise-en-Scene

4) Editing

In the extract from Agent Carter, different technical parts show whatwomen can do in a job where men are in charge. This clip has manyelements that help explain this meaning.

The clip
starts with a wide view of Brooklyn, New York, after a shortmemory from two characters. This shows the location and creates aformal start to the movie, making the audience interested in what will be going on.

There are also a number of point-of-view shots that represent the waythe main character feels or sees things in this clip. These shots allowthe audience to feel the disrespect and mistrust she goes throughwhich evokes feelings of unfairness and understanding.

Sound plays a
very important role in creating meaning. The background music generates tension within the office and signals what a womanhas to go through in a man's world. Such tension can help the audience relate more to the struggle of the main character.

The use of inappropriate sound is also used by directors to make the audience interested and alert. In this clip, this type of sound supports what is happening and makes the scene more powerful.

Mise-en-
scène elements, such as the setting of a 1940s office, fittingcostumes, and props like typewriters, help make the time period feelreal. The lighting often focuses on the main character to show her importance and loneliness in a male-dominated world.

Editing techniques,
such as cutting between scenes, help keep the story's speed and focus on the main character's experiences. These cuts can show moments of tension and the main character's reactions, highlighting the theme of women's challenges in a man's job.
